Gordon Lightfoot is postponing a number of tour dates in Western Canada until the end of 2022 as COVID-19 infection rates skyrocket in the region.
The changes affect seven sites in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia that were scheduled to take place in November.
Six shows were moved in October 2022, but a stop in Red Deer, Alta. has been cancelled.
The management of the 82-year-old singer-songwriter has said tickets for the rescheduled concerts will be valid for the new dates and that refunds are available.
The move comes as Saskatchewan and Alberta face the country’s highest COVID-19 infection rates, and British Columbia faces rates well above the national average.
The new 2022 dates are Nanaimo, BC on October 23, Victoria on October 24, Calgary on October 26, Edmonton on October 27, Regina on October 29 and Winnipeg on October 30.
Lightfoot, who has postponed a number of shows over the summer to recover from a fall, is expected to return to the stage Nov. 25 in Toronto for a three-night run to reopen a newly renovated Massey Hall.
“We must all prevent the spread of COVID-19 variants at all concerts and events with crowds,” its management added in the announcement on Tuesday.
