Guitarist John Stowell will perform at 6 p.m. on January 13 at Roland Wines, 1106 Florida St., Longview.
Stowell’s career began in the early 1970s. A few years later, in New York, he met bassist David Friessen. They have formed a duo, recorded and toured prolifically for seven years, performing in the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia, according to a press release submitted to the Daily News.
The duo joined flautist Paul Horn and his son, drummer Robin Horn, in 1983 and toured the Soviet Union. It was the first time in 40 years that an American jazz group had been invited to perform in public in Russia, the statement noted.
Sowell continues to tour, record and teach internationally. He has been artist in residence in schools in Germany, Indonesia, Argentina, the United States and Canada. He was assistant director and performer of the PDX Jazz Summit of Oregon Public Broadcastings in 1991. Since 1995, he has collaborated on numerous magazines, notably âDownbeatâ, âGuitar Playerâ, âCanadian Musiciansâ, âSoundcheckâ ( Germany) and âGuitar Clubâ (Italy), the press release said.
