ND guitarist performs live with Green Day in Minneapolis
Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer are currently rocking the faces of the country during the Hella Mega Tour. As my newsfeed flooded with images and videos from the Minneapolis show at Target Field last Monday, I saw a video that made my jaw drop. Someone I knew was on stage with Green Day, playing guitar next to Billie Joe Armstrong!
Adelina Colucci from North Dakota (originally from Missoula, MT, but we claim her for this awesome story) was one of over 35,000 fans, shouting every word of every Green Day song when she was chosen to play guitar on stage with the band! She took the stage and absolutely killed off the 1990 song “Knowledge” on guitar before taking an epic dive on stage. So I had to reach out and ask what this unique experience was like.
Adelina was shocked to be the one chosen to perform with a band she says she loves since before she was born. When I asked her what was going on in her head when she took the stage, Adelina replied, “Don’t be kidding in front of Billie.” And, even though there were tens of thousands of people watching, Adelina said it was all taken away, and it was just her and Green Day, nothing else.
As if playing with her favorite band wasn’t exciting enough, Adelina was also offered the guitar, which was even signed! Rather than playing it in her Green Day cover band (where Adelina is the resident “Billie”), she’ll put it in a display case to keep it safe. And, if she ever found herself on stage to star again, she would love to perform “This Means War” with Avenged Sevenfold.
Green Day even posted the moment on his Instagram!
