The Trews have had their stripped-down tour across Ontario, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down – in fact, they’re speeding it up with even more shows. The announcement of the band’s new expanded tour comes alongside the new single and video for “Permission” from their upcoming album. Vagabond.
Last week, the Nova Scotia group performed the national anthem in the Ottawa Senators’ home opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and will continue their streak with a series of new performances at the start of the season. next year. Their new dates include stops in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Vancouver and more. See the full tour itinerary below.
As for “Permission” – recorded at the Tracking Room Studio in Nashville, TN – the single is one of three songs on the upcoming album produced by Black Crowes’ Rich Robinson. Beyond production, Robinson accompanies Trews guitarist John-Angus MacDonald on the track.
â’Permission’ started out as a high octane guitar riff that needed a focus,â MacDonald said in a statement. “It also features Rich, one of my all-time favorite guitarists, playing the main breaks on the slide guitar.”
MacDonald explained, taking inspiration from a certain social media star for the anthemic single:
Cut straight from the ground, it really captures the energy of the group. I borrowed the opening line of the chorus, “shoot me into the sun”, from the amazing Instagrammer the Fat Jewish and the rest of the lyrics, “I won’t bite my tongue, we won’t leave any song unsung. , I don’t care who’s listen, “speak of fearless artistic freedom – a sort of mission statement for the band!
In addition to the song’s lyrics, the “Permission” video also seems to derive its influence from the photo-sharing platform. Light leaks, a grain effect and high contrast tones surround the group’s performance throughout the video, reminiscent of old Instagram montages. High-speed freeway clips and paint-splattered faces complete the frenetic song.
Stay tuned for the release of Vagabond from November 19 to Known accomplice, and in the meantime, watch the “Permission” video below.
