Ukrainian guitarist MaHA Rocks on new album ‘I Will Survive’ to be released on October 17th
I a m MaHA rocks, a songwriter and solo artist based in Kiev, Ukraine. My music is full of solo guitar parts because the guitar is my starting point in songwriting. It is essential for me to write meaningful lyrics, which are at the heart of every song. I think they make people think.

I’m gonna release my first full studio album, I will Survive, on October 17, 2021. The song on each album is written in English, telling true stories expressed in rock, modern and blues-rock genres. In support of the album, two singles will be released in September and October. And especially for Guitar Girl Magazine, I am pleased to announce that the song “Cannot Change Myself” is available for download before the official release date of the album. This song is very girly, manifesting women, nature and self-respect.
“With my music, I want to motivate people to find their own path to happiness and joy, to overcome difficulties, doubts and hobbies.”
Tell us about your new music and the inspiration behind it.
Behind every song there is a personal story that I experienced on my own or felt empathy for those closest to me. No matter how difficult the situation is, there is always a way out.
What was the writing and recording process like?
Like gradually threading beads on a string, I wrote song by song for five years. The recording and production process took me about a year. As soon as I recorded the vocals for the song “Too Often I Was Told to Die”, I discovered the reason for my unusually hoarse voice – my Covid-19 test was positive. The album was produced and recorded in cooperation with the best sound producers and studio musicians in Ukraine.
What do you hope your fans / listeners take away when they listen to your music?
My main message is an attitude of never saying to die, which they can find in beliefs, self-respect, having sad personal moments and giving wings to those who are in love.
When did you first choose the guitar and what attracted you to this instrument?
When I was 14, I had to fight for the right to be admitted to the music school classes, which were already packed. I thank my classmates who gave me a place. From the first touch of a classical guitar, I fell in love with its raw sound, which was discovered with every Spanish and classical song I played.
What are your musical influences?
As a grateful appreciation, I was able to mention hundreds of my music influencers, whom I have had the pleasure of seeing live at concerts and festivals. And one of them is Robert Plant, the legend, and surprisingly a very easy going person. I will never forget our little chat at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival on March 9, 2007. I am also a fan of Colin James, the outstanding Canadian bluesman and guitarist whose music and vocals inspired me to write two blues songs. for my next album. . I love the roots, especially the blues and jazz interpretations of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. However, blues is a rare genre in my home country of Ukraine, so it was rather difficult to get the preferable sound. And without a doubt, you can find me front row at concerts by artists as famous as Shinedown, Zakk Wylde, Rob Zombie, Eric Clapton, Slash, Myles Kennedy, Santana and many more.
After the release of this album, I will work on new music and go back to the studio if the Covid situation allows it.
